Handweavers designed many configurations of stars for multiple-harness looms. These are multiple-harness overshot in several weave structures that are not evident without thread-by-thead analysis. Color changes often give results and contribute to optical illusions.

Trees in borders are often in double rows.
The doublecloth coverlets were handwoven using 16 or 20 harnesses. It took really good planning to weave trees up the sides as well as at the foot of the coverlet, in balanced and symmetrical form.
